City Botanic Garden Work Team
Opportunity starting March 2018

Brisbane City Council, supported by The Friends Volunteers are providing the opportunity to work maintaining the bedding displays within the Formal Garden area in ‘The City Botanic Gardens’.

Enjoy developing a beautiful flower garden admired by the passing public and park users. Learn new flower gardening skills. Enjoy the outside whilst achieving a sense of fulfilment working with the City Botanic Gardens team.

By joining the City Formal Gardens team you will be involved in providing support from March to October on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month Program plans to commence March 14th. No session Anzac Day.

The focus is ‘on the flowers’ and you will be dead-heading, weeding and help with planting en masse once every 3 months.

9:30am – 12 noon; Parking in the gardens
If parking please plan to arrive between  9:15am and 9:30am

WPHS induction is a pre request – 1 hour

Protective clothing:
Long pants, long sleeve shirts, closed in shoes, hat,sunscreen
All garden tools will  be provided

Parking is available for most sessions, participants will be notified of the exact location prior (once they register).

Food and drinks:
Bring own MT, lunch and water as no fridge available and thermos if you desire a cuppa as there is no access to hot water

Team Size:
Numbers are limited to 5 per session with 7 at most.

Role of Friends Coordinator

This is an important role that manages;

  • Organisation of team volunteer members to complete the work;
  • That all volunteers have completed Safety Training with the BCC;
  • Complete a simple pictorial report for our quarterly e-magazine, Lilygram, regarding the project;
  • Complete same tasks as per the team members;
  • Liaise and direct enquiries between the public The Friends or BCC or Botanic Garden to the appropriate person.
