The board of The Friends of Brisbane Botanic Gardens & Sherwood Arboretum are pleased to announce that Her Excellency the Honourable Dr Jeannette Young AC PSM, Governor of Queensland, and Professor Graeme Nimmo RFD have accepted our invitation to be the FBBGSA’ Patrons for the life of the governor’s appointment.
Her Excellency was appointed as the 27th Governor of Queensland on November 1st 2021. At her inauguration she noted, as a very proud Queenslander, her “immense honour and responsibility of being appointed as Her Majesty The Queen’s representative to the state of Qld”.
“Apart from upholding my central constitutional responsibilities, I see my mission, as Governor, to serve, acknowledge and support Queenslanders wherever they may live, and to honour the pride we all have in being Queenslanders.”
The Governor and her husband, Professor Graeme Nimmo, will be travelling widely throughout the State, especially to Indigenous communities. Her priorities to be to promote literacy, especially for Indigenous children and young girls, to encourage a healthy and active Queensland, and to visit every public hospital throughout her term.
The Governor has expressed her desire to support the Friends and is interested in the opportunity to engage with us as much as possible.
