The natural history art exhibition – reFraming Nature 2017 – will be run by the Friends of the Royal Botanic Gardens (FRBG) in Melbourne from October 7-22.  The exhibition covers a vast array of topics from birds to frogs, ferns to fungi, beetles to penguins, so there will be something for everyone.

This year, we have some special visitors – a parade of penguins will be joining us to help lead the way to the gallery.  The penguins have been painted and dressed by some of our artists and include Pierre, our artist penguin painted by Dianne Emery and is shown on our poster.  Before the exhibition begins, the penguins will be visiting various landmarks around Melbourne so be sure to follow their travels on our facebook page and social media sites.

All the paintings and drawings exhibited aim to be as scientifically accurate as possible while expressing at the same time artistic vision and creative individuality.  All works are for sale including unframed original works and prints, along with artists’ cards.

Highlights of the exhibition include artist in residence, the ever-popular people’s choice award and children’s colouring in.  We will be running an artists’ market on October 21-22 to coincide with the Royal Botanic Gardens Plant Sale and Rare Plant Fair.

reFraming Nature 2017 will be held in Domain House Gallery, Dallas Brooks Drive, located behind the Shrine of Remembrance – just look for the penguins.  The exhibition opens from 10am to 4pm daily.
